How to apply perfume correctly?

The art of perfume application

Choosing the right fragrance is only half the battle. Equally important is the correct application of the perfume, which is a guarantee of proper development of the fragrance on the skin and prolonging its durability. What can we do to bring out all the qualities hidden in our favourite fragrance?

What is worth remembering?

Firstly, moderation is the most important thing. We must remember that our sense of smell becomes resistant to frequent and prolonged exposure to fragrances. As a result of this natural tendency, we can stop smelling an applied fragrance well before it has faded. In such situations, it is best to seek advice from another person. Remember that an overly strong fragrance is a disturbance to those around us.

A factor we should take into account when considering what proportion of perfume will be appropriate, is the type of product we are dealing with. Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne have less intense scent than perfumes and Eau de Parfum. Perfumes and Eau de Parfum have a longer longevity, so should be applied less frequently….

Where to apply the perfume?

It is very important that perfumes are always applied to clean, washed and dried skin. This is a guarantee of proper development of the fragrance. Avoid applying perfume on clothing. The perceptible fragrance is then less long-lasting and some perfumes may discolour clothes.

Experts advise perfuming the thinnest and bloodiest parts of the skin. These are found on the inside of the wrists, in the bends of the knees and elbows, on the neck and under the breasts. By applying the perfume in this way, the fragrance will fully express its rich bouquet over a long period of time. An interesting suggestion is to perfume parts of the body such as the navel, temples or groin. It is a great idea to play with fragrance.

It is worth remembering that when using perfume, you should apply it to moisturised and nourished skin. This will help the fragrance last much longer. If you own dry skin, you can apply a small amount of unscented vaseline at the point of application.
